The Jing Mei “Phoenix Challenge” is an enrichment program intended to provide fun opportunities to students that encourage personal goal setting, trying new things, and confidence building.

Rules
- Phoenix Challenge submissions will be accepted between Sept 26, 2025 – Mar 20, 2026.
- Teachers can help students submit their work. Choose “Teacher Submission” when submitting.
- All submissions should be labeled with the student’s name, grade, and homeroom teacher.
- Book reviews and reports should be in pen or pencil in the student’s handwriting.
- Writing and artworks must show an element of grade level effort.

Art 
Choose 1 of these options to complete the challenge.
- Submit a drawing of Jing Mei Virtues

- Submit a drawing of Jing Mei’s ACHIeVe values.
- Aesthetics - Community - Health - Intelligence - Virtue

- Learn about a different culture or time in Global History.
- Pre-K - 2nd grader: Draw 2 pictures or write about what you have learned.
- 3rd - 5th grader: Write a two-page report about what you have learned.
Jing Mei Big Three 
Choose 1 of these options to complete the challenge.
- Collect 30 Phoenix tickets.
- Name & Class on each ticket
- Submit photo of all 30 tickets at once
- Tickets MAY NOT be reused for other rewards.
- Complete Jing Mei BINGO.
Literacy 
Read 4 books & complete 4 reviews to complete the challenge.
- 2 books in English
- 2 books in Mandarin
- 2 of the found books should be non fiction books. One should be a book in English and the other should be a book in Mandarin
- Use the correct grade templates to complete 4 book reviews
- Pre-K - 1st grade
- 2nd grade
- 3rd - 5th grade
Science 
Choose 1 of these options to complete the challenge.
- Invention: Construct an invention (using Legos/other materials) that could solve a problem or make your community/the world better.
- Write a short description of your invention
- Include how invention works, your inspiration for making it & a picture of it
- Upcycled Craft: Create a craft from natural and/or recycled materials.
- In your submission explain your craft
- Report: Write a 1-page report on one of the following.
- A famous scientist and their invention
- The history of an invention (ex: the wheel, airplanes, paper, etc.)
- STEAM Fair: If there is a school STEAM Fair prior to the last day to submit entries to the Phoenix Challenge (3/20/26), then your individual science experiment project and/or your participation in the fair as part of a school club can qualify as your Science Challenge Submission.
- Pre-K - 2nd grader: Submit a picture of your project or how you participated in the fair as part of a club
- 3rd - 5th grader: Submit a picture of your project or how you participated in the fair as part of a club and write a one page summary of your experience
Service 
Choose 1 of these options to complete the challenge.
- Take on a School-Wide Leadership Role.

- Submit a photo of the Certificate of Appreciation.
- Examples
- Appreciation Cards: Show your appreciation by writing a thank you letter or creating a drawing.
- Show your appreciation by presenting a thank-you letter or drawing to community helpers such as trash collectors, firefighters, police officers, medical workers, or mail carriers.
- Submit a photo of the letter or drawing.
- Create a service project
- Write about it and document with pictures
- Examples
- Participate in the Sister Schools Donation Program. Include a donation statement (or a drawing of your donation statement)
- Pick up trash in your neighborhood 8 times
- Collect food and supplies from your neighbors for the food bank 8 times
- Help an elderly neighbor pull out their trash bin 8 times
Student Choice 
Choose 1 of these options to complete the challenge.
- Family Walks
- Go on 3 long walks (30 minutes or longer) with your family.
- Write about where you walked & what you had learned on your walks

- Physical Challenge
- Examples:
- 30 pushups in a row
- Play basketball for 20 minutes daily
- Video/write-up should include the following:
- What is the new skill you learned?
- What motivated you to learn this skill?
- What was the most challenging part of learning this new skill?
